Getting successful is like building muscle.
It looks easy from the outside but once step inside a gym, you realize that it has its own rules and to achieve your dream physique, you need to work hard, rest hard, need to learn the basics, and apply them. But often we forget about genetics because it’s not in our control.
Most people say genetics doesn’t matter, but science has proved that it does. The same goes for becoming successful. There’s one thing that often gets ignored.
Luckily for you, unlike genetics, you have control over this only if you pay attention.
Desperation Fuels Success
Goals and dreams are all good until you face the reality of getting successful. It demands much more out of you. It needs your time, sacrifice, and all the energy you have.
No one has woken up one day, worked hard, and succeeded. They had to take care of a lot of stuff, day in, day out.
Lots of things are common among successful people. We all know these specialties. Hard work, struggle, long work days, sleepless nights, and skill building to name a few.
But one thing that often gets ignored is desperation. These people were desperate to succeed. Either they were broke financially or they loved their work more than anything else.
Unlike Gen Z, they weren’t interested in partying, video games, bodybuilding, dating, etc. They only had one goal. To become the most successful person in their field of work. They ignored everything to narrow their focus.
Gen Z Is Blessed And Cursed
Gen Z is the most blessed generation in the history of human beings. They have everything they want at their fingertips. They don’t have a scarcity of important things. They have an abundance of the things their ancestors struggled for.
This is why Gen Z is also the most cursed generation. Because they have everything they want, they don’t need to work hard to get it. The majority of us come from a privileged background. We have decent money and that’s why we don’t feel the need to go out there and make more of it.
Another reason most people don’t have strong goals is that they’re distracted 24/7 by social media, parties, video games, and Netflix. They invest all their time in such things. This leaves them no time to reflect and realize what they need to do and what they should do.
Even if they do manage to get out of this dark place. They’re unable to achieve big goals since all their life is spent on such habits. They’re unable to work hard even after trying.
The case is the same with me. I came out of the dark place 1.5 years ago. Yet I still struggle to work hard, do tough things, face tough situations, deal with adversity, and focus on one task. You name anything that requires a person to succeed and I won’t be able to do it.
This takes me back to the desperation point. If we don’t have goals then we should face the financially broke situation to get out of this, isn’t it?
Not quite. In most cases, we either have parents that don’t let us get broke by providing or we are able to get a decent job easily that pays good money. We hate our jobs yet because we’re so spoiled, we keep doing them without looking to achieve something we truly want.
You’ll see it everywhere. People hate their jobs yet still do because of money. I don’t consider getting a job success, I consider getting a job that you love as success which is not the case with 90% of employees.
What We Can Do In Such Situations
There’s no one size fits all solution here. I’m still figuring it out. But something that can work is deliberately putting yourself in a situation where you have no choice but to work hard towards your dreams.
For instance, if you work a job then quit it right away provided that you have 3 months worth of savings. Then tell yourself that you only have 3 months to start doing the thing you want to or else you’ll go back to that soul-sucking job or even go broke.
3 months is just a basic estimation. You can adjust according to your convenience and how long it will take you to generate revenue through your dream career. The point here is to put yourself in situations that you can’t escape from.
Once you successfully face the initial period of discomfort and adversity, you’ll get used to dealing with such situations heads up without running away from it. But there’s no denying that most people will fail to do so and will go back to their comfortable life.
There’s not much we can do about it. It’s an individual choice and no matter how much advice we give them, the chances of them taking action on it are low.
All in all, every person must live their life however they want. Life is beautiful either way. If you want to succeed, you can take action towards it or you can keep living the same life.
Just don’t take life for granted. You’re blessed more than any generation to step foot on Earth. You owe yourself a better future.
